MACOMB TWP — The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a series of alarming text messages were received targeting a Macomb Township home.
It unfolded shortly after 3:00 p.m. and targeted a home on Riverwoods Drive, which connects Hall Road and 21 Mile Road west of Heydenreich.
According to obtained audio, several text messages were received by at least two national hotlines. Multiple messages that were received were sent under different names.
The messages indicated that an alarming situation was unfolding at the house, including a hostage situation, shots fired, and even messages about explosive materials.
Deputies quickly arrived and determined that there was no situation unfolding and that everything was safe and secure.
The messages gathered a large police response that was quickly shuttered as the situation was immediately declared a hoax.
