Drunk driver rear ends patrol car on freeway in Saint Clair Shores

ST. CLAIR SHORES — A St. Clair Shores Police officer along with a drunk driver were hospitalized after a crash on the I-94 freeway early Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police says the crashed happened around 1:20 a.m. at westbound I-94 and 10 Mile Road.

The officer was parked on the right shoulder looking out for a stolen vehicle reported to be in the area when a Buick ran off of the roadway and rear-ended the patrol car.

The crash sent the patrol car across the WB lanes where it ended up in the left and center lanes horizontally. The Buick ended up in the grass of the embankment.

The driver of the Buick was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, according to MSP.

He remains hospitalized but will be arraigned after the prosecutor reviews the evidence.

The officer injured in the crash has been released from the hospital.
