MEMPHIS — Officials are praising a student for sending in a tip regarding a concerning and threatening journal entry written by a Memphis Junior High School student.
The tip came in through the Yellowjacket Tip Line, and officials confirmed that the names of thirteen people, students and staff members, were written on a “kill list today” in the students journal.
The parents of every student listed in the entry has been contacted, and the district is providing support to the students affected.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the situation and there is no threat to the school district as the juvenile that wrote the list has been identified and is going through the investigative process.
“I am deeply grateful to the student who spoke up. Their courage and quick thinking helped maintain safety and allowed for a rapid, timely, and measured response,” said Superintendent Sara Dobbelaer.
“If you see something, say something—no concern is ever too small when it comes to safety,” she continued.
The school will take disciplinary action in addition to legal repercussions against the student who made the list, in accordance with the student code of conduct.
The districts Yellowjacket Tip Line is accessible on their website and is 100% anonymous.
Anybody who knows any information regarding the threatening journal entry should contact the St. Clair County Sheriffs Office.
