Suspect leads police on multi-hour standoff after fatally shooting man at hotel

STERLING HEIGHTS — One man is in custody, and another man is dead after a shooting at a Sterling Heights hotel early Saturday morning.

It unfolded around 5:30 a.m. at Extended Stay on Van Dyke Avenue north of 14 Mile Road, where police responded to reports of a shooting.

Officers located a deceased male when they arrived at the scene, and learned that the suspect had fled the scene in an SUV.

Investigators were quickly led to a Center Line home where the suspect refused to surrender for about five hours before negotiators talked the man out of the home peacefully.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information should call Sterling Heights Police.
