SHELBY TWP — A standoff in Shelby Township has ended peacefully after a man, who was allegedly holding a firearm, barricaded himself inside of his home during a police investigation.
It happened around 7:00 p.m. when Shelby Township Police Officers were at the man’s home, located at the 49000 block of Marquette Ct., for an unknown investigation. Unconfirmed sources say the man may have been part of a driving while intoxicated stop outside of his home.
The man went into his house and as police were preparing to have his vehicle towed, he came outside holding a firearm, according to dispatch audio.
This resulted in armed officers surrounding the area with the assistance of Utica Police Officers.
Crisis negotiators responded to the scene and were able to talk the man, who is believed to have been intoxicated during the incident, into surrendering peacefully.
He has been taken into custody around 9:00 p.m. and his home was searched as part of the investigation to ensure that there was no further threat.
A police presence remains at the scene and no further information is available.
