Intoxicated woman attempts to run over pedestrians after ramming two Shelby Township Police cars

SHELBY TWP — A woman who was driving while intoxicated made a series of bad decisions while behind the wheel in Shelby Township two Sundays ago.

Shelby Township Police say they responded to the area of Ruann and Connies on July 21 for a vehicle that struck numerous parked cars and was continuing to drive around the area.

That’s when officers located the vehicle and when attempting a traffic stop, “the driver of the vehicle rammed the patrol car,” according to a news release.

A second patrol car intervened and the driver struck that one as well before “aggressively” hitting the gas towards pedestrians, forcing them to dive out of the way to avoid being hit.

The woman then began driving through back yards in her attempt to flee but struck a post and came to a stop.

Madison Forsyth was behind the wheel and was arrested, while registering a .25 Blood Alcohol Content level from a PBT.

Forsyth was charged with felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing and eluding, and operating while intoxicated.

She was released from custody after posting a $500 bond set by Magistrate Verploeg of the 41A District Court.

“I was stunned to hear that Forsyth was allowed to leave after paying such a low bond after all the damage and danger she inflicted,” said Shelby Twp Police Chief Robert Shelide.
