Young boy found unresponsive in the water near Eastwood Beach at Stony Creek Metropark

SHELBY TWP — Huron-Clinton Metroparks Police are investigating after a 13-year-old boy was found unresponsive in Stony Creek Lake Monday evening.

The incident unfolded around 7:00 p.m. when the boy and his family became seperated in the lake and he allegedly went underwater.

Approximately 5-10 minutes later, the boy was found by his mother who was searching for him in a canoe. He was pulled from the water with the help of local bystanders.

Metroparks Police and emergency medical services performed CPR and rushed the boy to the hospital. His condition is not known.

This comes as a large increase of drownings and water incidents have occurred recently in Metro Detroit waterways and lakes this summer.

There is no further information at this time.
