EASTPOINTE — A child was left injured after picking up a handgun and accidentally shooting himself in Eastpointe last Saturday, June 15.
Eastpointe Police were called to a home at the 21000 block of Nevada Avenue around 7:00pm where they located an adult male, the father, sitting on a couch holding his child who had an apparent gunshot wound to the hand.
Officers determined that the handgun that the child shot himself with belonged to the father, and the weapon was recovered by police.
The child was taken to the hospital by Medstar and is not seriously injured.
An investigative report will be sent to the Macomb County Prosecutors Office who will determine if the father will face criminal charges.
