False 911 report gathers large police response in Macomb Twp

MACOMB TWP — Another Macomb County family has fell victim to a false 911 call, resulting in a large police response early this morning (April 18).

It was around 12:48am when the Macomb County 911 Central Dispatch Center received a call from an alleged 12-year-old male who stated that his uncle had pulled a gun on the callers cousin - and was holding it to his head - on Birkdale Drive. Additionally, the caller told dispatchers that shots were possibly fired.

It wasn’t until deputies arrived at the scene, with plenty more still making their way, where they made contact with the homeowner and learned that none of the above was taking place.

The scene was quickly marked safe and deputies believed this to be a SWATTING report.

SWATTING is when someone makes a false 911 call, typically alleging that a dangerous situation is taking place, to gather a large police presence or SWAT team to a location.

While no further information is available, this is the third SWATTING call in Macomb County since March 27. Shelby Township, New Haven, and now Macomb Township have fell victim to dangerously false 911 calls that gathered a large police response.
