Bomb threats to Macomb County schools not credible; numerous police agencies

Numerous school districts in Macomb County were centered in a bomb threat investigation leading to Merritt Academy closing for the day and investigations by the Sheriff’s Office, and Clinton & Chesterfield Township Police Departments.

Law enforcement has determined these threats to be non-credible with no active threats to any school following their investigations.

A former Chippewa Valley Schools student was involved in a conversational exchange over the internet, in which the person on the other end of the exchange was demanding money from the former student. That person, believed to be out of state, is then alleged to have emailed bomb threats to numerous area schools in an effort to pressure the former student into sending them money.

These districts included Center Line, Anchor Bay, Chippewa Valley, Merritt Academy, and more.

“In today’s digital world, it is necessary for parents to have an ongoing dialogue with their children about the potential dangers of engaging with strangers online,” Chippewa Valley Schools said in a letter to parents.

Law enforcement authorities didn’t indicate whether arrests have been made, but the investigations remain ongoing.
