One killed in Chesterfield Township crash, driver of involved vehicle on the run

 


CHESTERFIELD TWP — Chesterfield Township Police are searching for a driver involved in a crash that left one killed Friday night.


Around 9:10pm, police responded to Gratiot Avenue and Commerce for several 911 calls of a rollover accident, and witnesses later told police that one of the involved drivers fled the scene of the crash on foot.


Police arrived to the scene and immediately pronounced the driver of the rolled over vehicle deceased at the scene.


Sterling Heights Police dispatched a K9 to the scene to assist with a search of the area, and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the perimeter. 


The search, involving a K9 and drones, was unsuccessful in locating the runaway driver.


Gratiot Avenue is closed at Commerce still as of 11:50pm. The crash investigation remains ongoing.
