I-94 shut down after man running from police gets hit by a vehicle

 


ROSEVILLE — Westbound I-94 is currently closed at Little Mack Avenue after a man running from Roseville Police officers was struck by a vehicle.

Currently on scene and assisting is Saint Clair Shores and Fraser Police Departments, and the Michigan State Police Department is responding to investigate the crash.

Based on dispatch audio, earlier in the afternoon a Roseville Police officer was fighting with a man at 13 Mile and Gratiot near the Best Buy parking lot when the man was able to escape police. The officer used his taser, but it was ineffective. The officers bodycam was also broke during the fight.

A large search of the area that included drones was called off and the suspect was unable to be located.

Around 2:30 PM, a citizen reported to 911 that the suspect who assaulted the police officer was located near Buscemis on Gratiot Avenue south of 13 Mile Road.

An officer arrived and the male fled on foot, running east towards the freeway. Dispatch audio then indicates that the suspect ran onto the WB lanes and was struck by an uninvolved vehicle.

The suspect suffered very serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital.

Motorists should continue to avoid the freeway until further notice.
