Man arrested after leading police on dangerous vehicle pursuit; resisting arrest and threatening officers

FORT GRATIOT — On Wednesday, just after midnight, authorities in Sanilac County issued a be on the lookout (BOLO) alert for law enforcement agencies in the area on a sedan, possibly an Impala, that fled from police during a stalking incident.

A deputy with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office located an Impala a short time later,  traveling at high rates of speed in Fort Gratiot.

The driver failed to pull over, and led police on a pursuit approaching the Blue Water Bridge, which connects the U.S. and Canada.

The suspect driver through an empty toll lane and began to proceed towards the bridge, before turning around and heading back into the U.S. while driving in the wrong lanes of travel.

The suspect then entered EB I-94 in the correct lanes of travel, where police deployed several stop sticks on the vehicle, taking out three of the four tires.

The suspect continued to flee on one tire, trying to go through a gas station parking lot. While exiting the gas station, the suspect collided with a police car and lost control, stopping after crashing into a snow bank.

The driver fled the car on foot, where he was chased and quickly apprehended.

Authorities say that the suspect threatened officers and was not compliant after being taken into custody. The suspect also resisted while being put in handcuffs.

The male is facing several charges including flee/elude and driving while under the influence.

The incident remains under investigation.
