House destroyed after being engulfed in flames on Fourth of July in Chesterfield Township

UPDATED AT 1:30PM, 7/5/2024 [PHOTO: Marci K.] CHESTERFIELD TWP — A family is left displaced after their home was destroyed after becoming engulfed in flames on the Fourth of July in Chesterfield Twp. Chesterfield Firefighters responded to the 26000 block of Fairwood Drive near 21 Mile and Gratiot Avenue around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday. They arrived to a fully-involved residential structure fire and struck first-alarm, with mutual aid coming from numerous nearby departments. The fire was under control around 11:10 p.m. and although all occupants and pets were able to evacuate, it’s unclear if there is any injuries as a result. One neighboring home suffered heat damage. SEMCO and Edison responded to shut off power and gas to the home and a boarding company has also responded. Chesterfield Township Firefighters received mutual aid from multiple agencies including Selfridge ANGB, Macomb Township, Lenox Township, and New Baltimore. Shelby Township Police make arrest after vehicle targets pedestrians, crashes into taphouse

SHELBY TWP — Shelby Township Police are still investigating after a black pickup truck sped towards pedestrians before crashing into Johnny Blacks Taphouse, at 22 Mile and Schoenherr Roads. It started when police received a large uptick in calls at 12:15am Thursday morning, where several callers reported that a truck crashed into numerous parked cars before striking the building. The driver left the scene on foot. Police arrived to the scene and located the suspects truck, and at least eight other vehicles in the parking lot that the suspect struck in the reckless incident. Police wasted no time in tracking down the alleged driver of the vehicle, with the help of the license plate on his truck that remained lodged between the Taphouse and victims vehicles. Police were able to follow investigative leads that led to the arrest of the suspect. His identity has not been released. The incident is still under investigation and there is no further information at this time.

Pedestrian hit, killed by train in Fraser

FRASER — Fraser Department of Public Safety is investigating a horrific and tragic crash that occurred on Thursday, shutting down numerous intersections. It happened shortly before 7:30pm, when police received a call of a train that struck a pedestrian at 13 Mile Road and Kendall Avenue. First responders arrived and pronounced a male, estimated to be in his 40s, deceased at the scene. At least four intersections are closed along the railroad tracks as the train is stopped while the investigation continues. Anyone who witnessed the crash should call Fraser Department of Public Safety at 586-293-2000.
