FBI, State Police involved in investigation after Richmond Community Schools staff member targeted in anti-semitic threat; and another death threat

RICHMOND — The Richmond Police Department has requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Michigan State Police Department, and Macomb Area Computer Enforcement (MACE) as the investigation into an anti-semitic threat targeting a Richmond Community Schools staff member continues.

On January 3, 2023, Richmond Police responded to Richmond Middle School after a staff member located a threatening message.

Police quickly began investigating and haven’t been able to dwindle down on who made the threatening statement, which not only targeted a staff member with death threats, but resulted in the staff member resigning.

Richmond Community Schools administration have provided authorities with documents and camera footage as requested, in hopes to locating the source of the threat.

Richmond Police Chief Costello has told school administrators that there’s a chance that this case may not only take a while to investigate, but it may go unsolved.

On January 8, 2023, another death threat targeting a staff member in the same school district was discovered. Police say that the staff member received the threat two days prior (Jan. 6).

Police say that this threat has also gotten nowhere, and that no persons of interest have been identified, but the investigation continues to occur.

These two threats were the first of three against the district in the new year, and the third threat has been deemed non-credible, along with disciplinary action being issued against the individual responsible.

If you have any information related to these threats, contact the Richmond Police Department immediately.
