Watch out! There is a police impersonator in the Rochester area

ROCHESTER — Police detectives in Rochester are currently warning the public about a police impersonator who hasn’t been arrested yet.

At approximately 8:15pm, on December 19, a woman was pulled over by a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights in the area of Tienken and Washington Rd.

The vehicle was described as a dark sedan, with no visible police markings, and the shape similar to that of a Ford Crown Victoria. The lights appeared to be a horizontal bar at the top of the vehicle.

After the woman had pulled over for the fake officer, the flashing red and blue lights were shut off.

A male approached the woman’s vehicle and asked for her license and registration, as well as asked where she was heading to and if she had been drinking.

The male took her license and registration, and went back to his vehicle for a short period of time.

When the male returned to the victims vehicle, he asked for her to step out of the car. The victim told the male that she didn’t feel safe and would rather move to either a well lit area, or have a second police unit come to the scene.

The male then handed the woman her license and registration, and told her that she was free to go.

The woman called the Rochester Police Department who verified that none of their officers, or officers from a surrounding agency was involved in that traffic stop.

The white male is described as approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, slender, possibly 200-240 lbs, possibly in his 30s, dirty blonde hair with short buzzed sides and approx 1” of hair on top, standard mid-western accent, normal teeth.

The male was wearing a dark blue jacket, dark colored vest type garment with lots of pockets near the bottom, dark pants, belt similar to a duty belt with various attachments to it.

The man was not believed to be wearing a radio, nameplate, badge, or camera.
