Late week winter storm possibilities

As Christmas nears, and not much snow on the ground so far this year, the questioning of a white Christmas lingers.

For those hoping to celebrate Christmas with some snow on the ground, it’s looking like you’re in luck!

We are tracking a winter storm, that hasn’t developed yet, that is looking to head into the Metro Detroit area on both Thursday and Friday, with Saturday snow possible as well.

The two models, GFS and European, both show different things currently, and in the past few days, neither has really changed at all.

The European model shows the low deep into the Ohio Valley which tracks colder temps northward, bringing the heart of the storm with it. If this model predicts to be correct, we may see several to half a dozen inches of snow on the ground in time for Christmas eve and Christmas day!

If the GFS model rings true, we will see slightly warmer temperatures and some wintry mix with some minor accumulation.

The storm is expected to develop to the west tomorrow, and when that happens we will have a better picture of timing and snowfall amounts.

Some things that are currently similar with both models is that the start of Thursday will look to be a wintry-mix, before it transitions to all snow as we head into Friday.

This storm is expected to bring travel impacts to the region, and we will continue to watch the development on the storm to keep you updated!
