Fire destroys Mt. Clemens apartment building, leaving at least nine families without a home

MT. CLEMENS — Around 5:30am on Thursday, Mt. Clemens Fire Department responded to the Hubbard Oaks Apartments at Hubbard Street and Groesbeck Hwy for an apartment fire.

Firefighters confirmed the fire when they arrived on scene and began checking for any trapped tenants.

Nobody was injured, however, at least nine families are displaced due to the fire.

One of the families in the apartment was made aware of the fire after their baby started crying after the fire broke out.

American Red Cross disaster services are temporarily providing assistance to families in need of shelter and food.

Firefighters say that the fire started at the meter box on the side of the building, and that this was an electrical fire.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and DTE are conducting their own investigations further into the cause of the fire.
