Two killed, two injured including the suspect after hostage situation in Harper Woods; Suspect was on a tether

 


HARPER WOODS — Last night, a domestic violence incident quickly turned into a fatal hostage situation resulting in two deaths, a critical injury, and the suspect injured with smoke inhalation.


The situation unfolded in the area of Sanilac Street and Kenosha Street.


Police arrived on scene and took on gunfire from the suspect before he barricaded himself.


The suspect stabbed his mother multiple times and she is currently hospitalized in critical condition. She was escorted from the home by SWAT officers during the incident.


Another individual was able to escape the home by crawling out and receiving escort assistance from SWAT as well.


The home was then set on fire by the suspect. Firefighters put water on the fire from a distance to try and keep the fire from spreading.


the suspect surrendered to police hours later and was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.


Police made entry on the home and found two deceased individuals.


It was determined that the 23-year-old suspect fatally shot his father and his girlfriend during the incident.


The suspect was wearing a tether at the time for past charges related to rape and torture.


Police continue to investigate.
