Warren police officer placed on lengthy disciplinary suspension for excessive use of force following a June 6 vehicle pursuit

WARREN — A Warren police officer has been placed on a lengthy disciplinary suspension as the Warren Police Internal Affairs Division continues to investigate an excessive use of force arrest following a vehicle pursuit on June 6.

On June 6, Warren Police were pursuing a vehicle being operated by 17-year-old Tyler Wade who failed to stop for a traffic stop.

The pursuit continued into Ferndale when Wade struck a stop sign and his vehicle became disabled.

Wade them ignored commands to exit the vehicle so officers physically removed him. Wade was non-cooperative.

During the removal, an officer was shown on video captured by another citizen kicking or stomping on Wade which reportedly gave Wade a concussion.

The officer was immediately placed on administrative leave following the pursuit but after an investigation, he was placed into a longer disciplinary suspension.

The department continues to investigate the incident. Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer says that after a review of the incident, all other officers on scene followed protocol and policy.

Wade was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding, and possession with intent to deliver drugs after officers seized marijuana from his vehicle.

Wade was released on bond on June 21.
